The single header design combined with our unique “V” baffle allows for long life, fast heating and virtually no condensation, for constant heat dispersement, and state-of-the-art pre-mix burners for environmentally friendly Low NOx outputs. Universal swimming pool heaters also include an induced draft system that constantly moves air through the combustion chamber at a precise flow rate. As a result, all outside weather variables that can affect the pool heating performance, such as wind conditions, are eliminated — without having to install a high-wind stack.

Hayward Universal swimming pool heaters advanced features include a highly resistant Cupro-Nickel heat exchanger for greater durability and longevity. Cupro-Nickel provides superior protection against even salt based, high flow, chemistry imbalances and aggressive water conditions that can cause equipment damage and failure in standard copper heat exchangers. Cupro-Nickel delivers rapid-heat transfer that is superior to titanium exchangers.

Universal Hayward pool heaters feature a rust resistant water pathway with polymer header assembly that offers improved by-pass control and additional protection from the damaging effects of erosion from high flow conditions. Fast and reliable start-ups using a hot surface Silicon Nitride ignition for instant fire up, energy savings, optimum performance and extended product life. Dual Voltage installation easily adapts to either 110V or 220V.

Plus, the Universal gas pool heaters are simple to install, thanks to it's 24 inch low profile design, light weight, and exclusive CPVC plumbing capability. Simple to view and use electronic LED control panel display and Dual Thermostat which provides digital temperature read-out and diagnostics for quick identification of components that may need service. Rust resistant water path, with injection-molded polymer header and union lock-nut assembly, provides for extended product life and simple installation. Exclusive CPVC plumbing kit included free with ever Hayward Universal pool heater. Allows for universal heater replacement and maximum plumbing versatility. Specially designed for maximum efficiency even under adverse conditions, such as low water flow and cold incoming water, uniquely sensitive thermal control valve continually monitors and regulates water flow, maintaining water temperature.

How to Choose a Pool Heater Size

The table below will help you to determine the desired size pool heater. Simply determine the surface area of your swimming pool in square footage and then the desired temperature rise. Please note, that this table represents the amount of BTU's required to increase the water temperature the desired degrees within a 24 hour time period. Refer to the table for the amount of BTUs required to heat up your swimming pool. For example: A 500 square foot pool with a desired temperature increase of 20 degrees. The pool heater output per hour needs to be at least 279,620 BTUs to heat your swimming pool within 24-hours. The amount of BTU's required to maintain that temperature using a solar pool cover is much less. Please refer to the Pool Maintenance chart below to see the difference.
Indoor draft hoods are sold separate and are required for indoor pool heater installation.

Electronic pool heaters require electrical connection in addition to the gas connection. The heater is equipped with a dual voltage transformer for either 110V or 220V power supply. All wiring connection to the pool heater must be made in accordance with the latest edition of the National Electric Code, unless superseded by local codes. Please have a qualified Licensed electrician provide these requirements.
